My question is where would I go to get them evaluated? Have any of you used art appraisers, are they expensive?

You should be able to find enough info online to come to a reasonable conclusion on their authenticity and ball park on value.

Fine Arts departments of universities sometimes have classes on art appraisals. They may check it for free.
