I disagree. The constant raiding and deliberate misappropriation of funds is the issue.

It cannot be opted out of, it gives a rough estimate of 5% growth annually which is significantly lower than a safe investment, it's an actual pyramid scheme, oh and it's going to be insolvent well before I'm able to retire.

SS has been co-opted and turned from it's original intent. I get the frustration, but, there are no safe investments, and let's not forget the clinton admin. took away Glass-Stiegal to eradicate defined pensions, and then force all that money into the stock market.
