I remember gas getting as high as $4.50 during the summer here in Missouri, and now most of the state varies between $2.79 and $2.50. Does anyone know what's going on?

Biden drained the SPR. It's almost empty, after which they'll go back up.

Not true. The price of gas is going down because millions of people have had to drive less thus using less gas which lowers demand which lowers price. The SPR has had no affect on the price of fuels at all. All it does is drain the oil we'd use to fight a war. Because the SPR is for the military not civilians. So, to recap people, millions of people are driving less so the price goes down. You are correct though, the price of fuel will go back up next year when the summer blends come back online.

Edit: sorry fat fingers.

If the SPR is just for the military would you mind explaining why biden came out and said he'd release millions of barrels from it to help curb prices and why millions of barrels have been released to help curb prices?

That's easy, he's releasing the Strategic oil Reserve to weaken our military. And if you look he sold more oil to China then he put into our refineries. One thing you must understand is we do not refine our oil in our country we send our oil out haven't refined and ship it back because the EPA refuses to allow a Refinery to be built in this country since the late 1970s. So by releasing all the Strategic oil to supposedly lower the price of gas in the US which at 3 billion barrels a day it's meaningless, all he has done is weak in the military. The price of gas is going down solely because of the fact that people are driving less.

Gas prices are down where I typically buy, but they're still WAY ABOVE where they were before the Biden junta took over.

Of course.

I think is on to something, though. Once we're out of the strategic reserve they'll go right back up.

Well I drive a diesel so no I don't notice any price lowering.

I don't drive a diesel, but I recall many years ago that someone successfully used cooking oil for fuel in a diesel. Do you know anything about this?

At what point would you consider trying this? I'm guessing it must really foul up the fuel pump and engine..

It might also be more of a pain to aquire large quantities of used cooking oil and filtering it than its worth.

My car's engine is made to exacting German standards, and I wouldn't befoul it with substandard fuel.

[–] 1 pt

I think substandard fuel may become the new standard fuel for Germany eventually.

You don't need gas if you don't have a job and can't afford to go out.

Not that I'd want to go out and spend $20 on a bland cheeseburger and $10 for a beer. And in tax and a tip, and I'm looking at $40 total. I can't even remember the last time I spent less than $100 for the whole family to go out to dinner.

Joe Biden did that. He's the bestest President ever !

got up to $4.95 in St. Pete Fl. its $3.25 now. it was $1.99 when Trump was in.

Looks to me as though they’re cycling low/high prices around regionally so as to make people think they’re finally getting a break. It has yo yo’d from a low of $3.19 to $4.99 in my parts for the last year.

It feels like almost overnight prices dropped almost a full dollar in my state. Still not in the $2 range last I saw, but that could have dropped since I've been in town last.

Two factors, first is covered in this thread, and that's reduced demand due to the recession.

Second is that Republicans are in control of the house and have investigative powers. Notice how as soon as Republicans said they'd start investigating things, Dems went from "Who cares how expensive gas is? It motivates people to buy EVs" to "look at those gas prices fall!"

[–] 1 pt

Don't forget about winterizing agents. That usually makes it a little cheaper too.
