I was working somewhere. I decided to take an unpaid admin leave from them pending some health problems. In the process they sent me to this other company who would re onboard me back to the company. I thought this was weird, since no payment or invoices were being sent. Instead they let me go pending abandonment on the job. The weird thing is i was working with the people to get re onboarded, and from my perspective it was costing the company nothing to have me around. So now, im thinking appealing the decision with HR to see what exactly happened, because the nature of the situation makes no sense. It would be one thing if they were paying me, but no cash was being exchanged at all. And i know other people who did something similar, who were fine. Deep down i think the company was hurting and was already gonna lay off people, so this was a convenient excuse to not re hire someone. I also learned they replaced me with two other shitskins in India somewhere

You must not be in an "at will" labor location.

The process is weird is what i was thinking, why go through all this trouble for such a minor reentrance issue? Makes no sense

It's not uncommon for companies to export hr labor to staffing agencies. It's also not uncommon for HR to tell employees to act a certain way verbally which will result in their termination for cause to save the company money. Sounds like they denied your request for leave so you quit by not coming in and then they didn't need you when you wanted to come back.

You are going to need to sue them. Seriously, talk to an employment attorney. You should be able to get a 30 min consultation for free.

Job abandonment is something that can come back to haunt you. You won't be able to put this employer on your resume, and that leaves you with a gap that will be difficult to explain. When a future employer call them to verify your past employment, they will legally be able to say "We would not rehire this employee."

Job abandonment occurs when an employee does not report to work as scheduled and has no intention of returning to the job but does not notify the employer of his or her intention to quit.

It's not about money, it's about protecting your future employability.

But the thing is i did try to work with them, but they made the process so convoluted i gave up

I understand. That's why you need to sue them. If you don't, you're going to be branded a job abandoner for the rest of your career. Please at least get a free 30 min consultation with an employment attorney. Call one up. They will invite you to their office to sit across from their desk and tell you if you have a case or not.

I did it before, it took ~20 min, they said I didn't have a case, and I went home. Didn't cost me a cent!

Contract companies have a no compete clause, sometimes. Meaning, you cannot leave one and get rehired to do the same but with a different contract co, at least within a certain time frame.

Sounds like they may have wanted to just get rid of you and couldn't outright end the contract, so when you took leave, they capitalized on that and sent you packing.
