Burial? Entombment? Cremation? Burial at Sea? Set afloat on a burning raft?

Burial? Entombment? Cremation? Burial at Sea? Set afloat on a burning raft?

For 1100 years my ancestors were buried with a Christian burial.

This is the way it was done in most of Europe during this time, based on the idea that the dead will rise again when Christ comes, so bodies should not be defiled or destroyed. It is also respectful and returns the nutrients from your body to nature.

If you live in a place where grave plots are very expensive, it can be hard to do this though, though you can save money by burying multiple people on top of each other, which is how my grandparents are buried.

I do not disagree that this would be ideal. But I have to say that modern catholic doctrine got something right too. I believe in an omnipotent God. If He can raise the dead, restoring a body from soil and plants, or ash and vapor should be trivial.

I just don’t see the purpose of cremation. It takes a lot of energy and produces a lot of pollution. Having worms eat your guts, we’ll it feeds the worms and doesn’t pollute anything. Just get a simple wooden casket or just thick canvas, and get buried right away, no embalming, no wake. Right in the ground before you start to get stink up the place too much.

Perpetual reservation of space. That's really expensive.
