DH - one year ahead of me in high school, which equated to 1.5-2 years older. He's live-in help for an elderly relative, and recently almost killed himself with some sort of alcoholic liver thing. Major hospitalization, surgery, etc. He still uses a bar phone, which isn't the worst thing ever. Just weird though.
