There’s a reliable breed called Honda you should look into.
Dude can only afford chevrolegs.

I've had horses and I've had motorcycles but I've never had a motorcycle decide one day that it was going to kill me...
But you've had 109 horses just randomly decide to kill you.
I was on a trail ride with my kids, and the giant retard I was on probably would've offed a couple of the other riders if they'd been on Lucifer? Diablo? (some stupid shit like that) when he decided to rear up like a frightened Silver. The reason? A deer turned it's head and looked at him. The only thing that kept me from getting tossed was prior years of dirt and mountain biking. The last half of the ride I made sure the stupid fucker knew to be way more afraid of me than anything else in the area.
I hope you ate it before it killed you :-p
And yet, motorcycles kill way more people than horses do.
There are many more people who ride motorcycles than horses and motorcycles don't have a brain. A motorcycle never "caused" the death or injury of a motorcycle rider. Horses, on the other hand...
Also. Horses and their upkeep are expensive as fuck, even if you own pasture. Their survival instincts are dogshit and they find 6 gorillion ways to harm themselves. Don't fall for a meme breed like modernized Arabians. Get a Lusitano or Andalusian. Look into lines with less dental and hoof upkeep.
Find a barn that trains horses. I used to live at one. Lots of people, mostly retarded middle-aged women, buy and board horses and then do nothing with them. Some of them are more than grateful if someone will ride and exercise their horse. Get yourself real lessons first. If the facility promotes English riding / tack GTFO. If you decide to get into it for real I can post shit about safe and practical tack and basic groundwork for training.
o7 thanks I'll look around. probably western ranch training out here if anything
Was going to say the same thing. Rich middle aged depressed women will let you use their horse to exercise. Also you might get to ride extra if you help out at the barn with tasks. When shit goes down just take the horse and go. Fuck'em.
You don't want one. In a shtf you'd just eat it.
That is like saying I want a dog but don't want to take care if it. Come on Man. You can't recreationally own a dog, it takes commitment, time and money. It takes love, pets, brushing, grooming, shots, walks, a leash, dog bowl, coat and bed .......... now multiply that times 10.
If you didn't grow up with horses, then you are going to get hurt. Just like dogs, you have to research what breed is the best fit. And you need tack to ride...... bit, bridle, saddle, blanket, halter, lead rope.
Second, if you are serious, find a vet. It does no good to have a large animal if there is no vet to help with care, because if there is a wire to get tangled up in, a hill to fall down on or a hole to break a leg, they will find it, guaranteed.
Third, find a farrier, it will need trims and shoes.
Fourth, they need shelter (barn) and food. Not so much in the summer, but most definitely in the winter. They also need fresh water. Do you have a pond or stream? If not, you will have to supply the container and keep it clean and full. There is nothing worse than trying to break up a frozen tub in the middle of winter.
Is your property fenced? It needs to be horse high and in good condition. If they can get out, they will. Trying to find a horse in a rural area is a nightmare. They are stealthy at hiding.
Owning a horse can be very rewarding and if you have a piece of property, that is a great start. The more time you put into training, the safer you will be. The tighter the bond with your steed, the greater the asset will become. The greater your understanding of how these animals think and act, the better person you will become. It is a commitment not to be taken lightly. They are awesome animals and could save your life in many situations. You can also be killed.
If you are truly serious, look for a quarter horse with a good disposition. They will have muscled bodies with a wide chest and powerful round hindquarters that can maneuver mountain trails. Since they are athletic, they will ride you all day without complaint. They are calm, dependable and loyal.
Learn all you can about them, then purchase one in the spring.
Just get yourself some solar panels and an electric scooter. Scoot your way through the apocalypse. There will be plenty of car batteries all around.
This beast is 6000 watts (745.7 Watts are equal to 1 hp).
You could tow a wagon with it
If you are not into it, you are throwing good money after bad. Barn/ stable, pasture that can feed a horse, ( grass types) horse fence, gates, corral, and a companion animal(s) horses, mules, or donkey.
Get an electric dirt bike. Just as stealthy, doesn’t shit, doesn’t spook, easy to feed, less prone to injury, easy fixable, longer life, doesn’t get sick, no maintenance when not in use, does make random noises giving away your position…
