We're smaller and much more of a community, like Voat once was. The bigger it (Voat) got though, the more hostile it became and now seems more like just a right wing Reddit. Here we still have the feel of the old Voat.
Voat downvote brigades people that they have a disagreement with, even if it's a slight disagreement, or people they just don't like. They are an echo chamber. We don't do that here on Poal.
Yeah that's kind of why I'm here. Voat is pretty much useless unless you're a right-winger specifically looking for right-wing political content, and even then much of it reposted or inflammatory fake news. I am a right-winger but like you said Voat is an echo chamber. What's more I could not recommend Voat to my friends because they would probably see the frontpage and think I'm crazy.
I'm definitely open to a board that still has quality political content that affirms free-speech, but one where it isn't everything, and there's other quality apolitical content on the frontpage. Even from a purely political perspective, platforms don't get popular when they host purely political content, they get popular when they host quality content.
List the drawbacks, and maybe you got your answer.

Well, this place is small, you'll know everyone by their names, the admins are just there, some malicious attempts to fuck the place were addressed quickly. I don't dislike voat or Putt, but that place became too crowded and circlejerked for me.

not enough people to form an echo chamber. hatred shouted in a thread only echos if the person you replied to bothers to reply. most of the time they read it and mark as read, and don't bother to vote on it. There's nothing to amplify the fractal hatred on this site.
I think the light mode looks nicer here. Also, there's less pressure to tow an ideological line.

This is much more my experience. Even trying to just "stay in my lane", I am really tired of not being able to post something "innocuous" without derisional comments. It's gotten to the point I'm almost reluctant to post certain music artists because the politics or race of the artist will promote negative comments that have nothing to do with the music. My enjoyment of art shouldn't need to be defended. Fun and joy shouldn't be such a chore.
I'll always do my best to protect the music.
Appreciate that, and I'm sure you include any hobby or interest. I don't expect anyone to share my tastes, and others opinions are welcome. The least I would hope for is to stay on topic and have a conversation instead of just a fly-by attack pulling in unrelated issues. As others have said, the minimal socio-political content here is much more welcoming. I think there are many who stay aware but prefer to "look on the bright side of life". Rage and anger have their place, but to live in it 24/7 isn't healthy or useful.
Well said. I left voat because after a few minutes of scrolling I would find myself getting anxious and angry. Not triggered, just fucking annoyed that a recipe for lime salsa could somehow get subscripted in the comments into hating a minority of choice. If users want free speech to hate, fine, IDC. But keep it to your threads and subs. When you impose your shitty politics onto my apolitical post well then you just became an insufferable cunt on the SJW "muh politics matter" autist spectrum that nobody wants or asked for.
