Any addict can cause issues. I manage the couple addicts I have by not over working them, and informing them in advance of days that they cant be fucking around. It works pretty well.
They do dope, or alcohol? It's great that you can handle them, I certainly wouldn't, too risky, but if it works for you that's great, hope it stays that way.
I find that the drinkers are okay until about 3 in the afternoon, then they start getting itchy to start drinking. But none of them have ever come to work drunk (that I know of or remember).
They should really appreciate you, they can get a leg up by your kindness.
I got a crack head helper guy, and a guy that hasnt admitted it but I know for sure he does meth. The crack head is a black dude that I just need to show up 90% of the time, and do about 1.5 hours of work a day for him to be worth having around. With incredibly low standards for him he does fine. The other guy I feel bad for, he smart and a good guy, he wants to do more but he just cant. He always tells me about how he can do more work than I give him, but the times ive taken him up on it he falls apart, so I stopped. He does shit that would get him fired other places like disappearing for an hour a day or calling out once or twice a month. Thankfully he doesnt screw up often if hes not under pressure, and he hasnt egregiously fucked my day up, so I let it slide, and deal with the occasional customer complaint for him, most people really like him though.
You're a good man, that's pretty amazing.
