NPR (and PBS) are designed for and by urban upper-middle-class White liberals with college degrees. It's modeled after the BBC to sound more educated and sophisticated than other main stream media so they can believe they are intellectually superior to the average person. The lib bias reflects all the classes they took in college. There is a big emphasis on how Whites have a long history of doing terrible things to the environment and minorities so they can see themselves as morally righteous, enlightened Whites who are aware and repentant of their own racism and carbon footprint. Note that the majority have jewish names and muh holocaust is another popular topic. Listeners consider it to be fair and balanced because everything is spoken in a calm and reassuring tone.
