Those are pretty rare these days. Most places keep a firewatch plane up on red flag days now. The USFS is big into tearing down most of the cool old lookouts. There's only a few manned ones left but there are a lot you can rent for the night.

The USFS intentionally destroys old infrastructure claiming it's for (((liability))). But in reality they want people to forget how populated and managed the woods used to be. They want everyone to forget what was done before so they can keep up the lie that the forests are in a natural, untouched state and should be kept that way.
This is correct. They burn now because logging has stopped. It's log it or burn it. No other option.
