Physically keeping you away? Jail is free.

The dick thing sounds funny but he's not wrong. I was a daily drinker for years. In patient rehab didnt work. Meetings didnt work. I couldn't find an answer. But Im completely sober for a long time now.

What got me sober was every day spending a few minutes repeating to myself (actually out loud seems to make a difference for some reason) "alcohol will destroy you." While doing it think of all the worst consequences from drinking. The more physically you can imagine it the better.

"I spend too much money on it," is probably true but hard to relive specific pain directly with the drink in your mind. "I make an ass of myself and feel terrible" while mentally reliving the time you made a humiliating drunk dial and woke up with the most painful hangover ever really putting youself back in that moment is better.

Do it every day. Several times a day. You don't need to sit and meditate forever a few minutes here and there is all, but just habitually connect the bad of drinking to the thought of a drink.

It won't work overnight, but eventually when the urge for a drink comes the first thing you'll think of is all the bad, and it will make it A LOT easier to say no.

Good luck.
