LG has the least obtrusive "smart" bullshit - meaning you can easily disable/remove the SOC.

Every other TV manufacturer has microphones and SOC's that will hop on ANY free wireless and upload all the data/telemetry/voice they've been collecting on you.

LG seems to be the only one left that gives a shit about making actual appliances.

Get a TV that does not require internet connection, does not contain a microphone or camera.

There's a reason why proles are enticed to buy $700 wall sized TVs at Walmart.

Dont waste money on 8K, yet. Get something that upscales, has HDR, 4K capable for the next +/-15 years. Most current OTA is broadcast in 480P, a few up to 1080i. Upscaling and HDR will be a great improvement, especially on bigger screens.

The most important thing is that it can do strobing or the backlight for only on for a couple of milliseconds each frame, to approximate how a CRT refreshes the display. This is the only way to eliminate motion blur on moving objects. Some TVs will upscale the frame rate which looks bad and still isn't a substitute for strobing.

All the big name brands require an internet connection now and some (all?) will be phoning home. Who knows what information is being sent back to Big Brother.

If you're dead set on a bigassed, high res TV then you probably don't have much choice though. We're still watching a 10+ year old 42" TV but it's starting to have issues, when it dies I'm not sure what we'll do. Though it's really only my wife that watches 'TV'. The rest of us consume all of our entertainment on our computers.

There's a new projection technology that uses lasers, called UST (Ultra Short Throw) that's quite impressive and actually not that expensive considering that it's cutting edge. Check out Formovie Theater.

Picture quality is OLED, by far. The downside is that it is susceptible to burn-in. Some extended warranties cover burn-in, so it might be worth it in that case.

Don't worry about internet features. You can block the TV from accessing the internet in many creative ways.

Get a cheap wifi router and have it connect to the SSId, but never connect the router to the Internet. It is a tarpit. A better way to go is to connect the wired connection to a switch that can clone the port. Use wireshark to monitor packet headers and block the outbound addresses it is trying to connect to on the firewall.

I got a 2022 samsung QLED designed for gaming. The picture depth and quality is amazing. And when I connect my PC the 120 fps is no joke at 65".

For regular TV watching idk.

It's awesome. I can't play all games at 120fps on my TV. It's too demanding. A game like Elden Ring would have to run at 60. Won't be a problem, hopefully, when I upgrade.
