Ripoff. Save the money to pay for future repairs. Insurance is paying because you didn't save your money. You should never buy insurance unless you can't afford the bill yourself, and your goal should be to save up until you can, and then cancel the insurance. If you own a car that you can't afford the repairs on, you should sell the car and buy something cheaper. The only things you should pay insurance for are potentially health insurance, life insurance for your family in case you are the breadwinner and die, and home/car insurance that you are legally required to carry.

Car insurance is required in my state, and on top of that they’ve raised the rates annually so it’s super expensive.

Home insurance is required?

[–] 1 pt

Yep. Banks require it to protect their investment. Don't know how long that's been going on, but everyone I know has it.

Ahhh, but what if its paid for?

Like a dumbass I bought one with my last car. It had expired by the time I needed it. Learn from my experience, they are a rip.

It's basically pre-paid repairs. Which you spend if you need the repair or not. As a rule they are a waste. Better to simply save that money to pay for your own repairs as needed.

you think they lose money by paying to repair your car?

ripoff. Extended factory warranties too.

But I'm mechanically inclined... not that you need to be to do the Basic maintenance needed to keep a newer car running for a decade or two.

If you buy a Ford, jeep or Chevy without a warranty you are a moron. I've seen warranties cover 30k in engine work. With how shitty those vehicles are, a warranty will pay for itself.

I own a Ford , I know ,I know , last one I'm ever buying.

youre talking about new cars. not an old broke in 5.0, 7.3, 4.0, 350, etc

Agreed for the most part. The 7.3 requires a lot of maintenance but warranties don't help with maintenance.

But yes my point is new cars that are absolute shit. Better buy that warranty because it can cost you the price of the vehicle all over again to fix it.

I buy the 10yr 125k bumper to bumper to protect all the new electronics.

Dealers are in the ballpark of around $200 an hour now. you might get lucky and get someone who knows what they're doing but more than likely not.

All insurance is a rip off. If insurance favored the people buying it, it wouldn't exist. It makes sense to force car owners and mortgage holders to have it but I'm anything else it's not a good deal.

I got a warranty on my used Jeep. Bought it at a little over 100k miles. The warranty went for 5 years or 50k miles or something. The trans went at 153k miles and the warranty was up at 155k. Paid a $250 deductible. Saved an assload of money., but just by a hair.

It’s a roll of the dice, but I can be worth it. Just barely worked out for us.

Had one for a minivan in 2008 . Blew the engine and I didn't pay a nickel. 5000 dollar job

ALL warranties on the aggregate are a waste of money. If they weren’t the company would run out of money and go out of business
