Buy a new gun safe.
Keypad locks take batteries and suck. I hate mine. Hit the first 2 or 3 or whatever numbers in your combo and leave the safe a half turn from the final number. Anyone seriously trying to steal guns is just going to cut the safe open anyways or rip it out into a pickup.
To be honest I don't even know why he has it anymore. It was when we were kids and he didn't want us to shoot ourselves in the face. But he was smart and trained us on how to use guns correctly. Personally I think he should just get a gun cabinet and call it a day. But he wants a safe.
If his house gets broken into when he is not there, at least the guns stay out of the hands of criminals.
Well that's a good point actually. He decided he's now going to live in the south for 6 months out of the year. The neighborhood he lives in is more or less uneventful. There's richer parts of town. Unfortunately though it borders a city that's filled with border jumpers and general shit. Not a lot of niggers because they can't afford the area anymore.
Valid point
Changing it is usually very expensive and probably breaks the warranty. Buy a new 1 and use the digital to store the ammo
If you're able to change the locking mechanism out on a safe with another type of mechanism, then that means the safe is shitty and will have many flaws that will remove its security functions. Safes need to be built around secure mechanisms that are integral to the safe and not be some replaceable variant locking mechanism. Just buy a better safe with the features you want.
Well that's a very good point.
For the same effort you can build a trap door or fake wall, and leave the safe empty but locked as a decoy that will be looked at first in the event of a break-in. They'll crow bar it or take power tools to it and might even get it open. Maybe leave a .22 rifle in there or whatever just to get them to really commit to wasting their time. If it's not bolted down they'll take off with it.
We kill squirrels with the 22. Dont want to lose that to a beaner.
Why not just have a post-it note hidden somewhere?
Wrote it down and lost it.
Yeah, don't lose it.
Right now my gun is locked behind a senile brain.
