My sister was in a car lease that was really bad for her for a number of reasons. I told her to drop the car off at the finance company along with the keys and a letter to the effect that she wasn't responsible for the car any further.
You can imagine my surprise when I learned that even if you're no longer in possession of a leased vehicle your lease payments don't stop.
That's probably not the worst advice I've given but it's the one that came to mind.

The car was falling apart and she didn't want to spend any money on it, and since the car had been her now ex-husband's she didn't actually need it. If memory serves she ended up paying out the lease term so that she didn't ruin her credit rating. The irony being that she signed for it originally because her husband's credit rating was garbage but he needed a car for work.
My advice wasn't necessarily bad in the sense that it didn't make matters worse for her. But you are absolutely correct I didn't have the faintest fuck of an idea what I was talking about. Certainly not the first nor the last time that happened.

A friend. He built a nice house with his father , and about 6months after moving in she kicked him out bc she wasn't happy. She was pregnant and cops escorted home put of his house. She moved a bf in shortly after the baby was born. It was his kid ( paternity test ) surprisingly.
Every day he had to drive by that house on his way to work ( child support ) and see the bf truck parked in the driveway.
