If you want to donate to a charity make it as local as possible so the money goes back into your community. A Lions or Kiwanis club. The Knights of Columbus. A local animal shelter (if they don't host drag queens).
Most large charities waste as much money on getting donations as they do helping people. Some (like the United Way) are horrendously wasteful.
