I had a dream that a dog bit by shoulder.

When I woke up and my shoulder hurt like from a pulled muscle or cramp.

Did my shoulder hurt because of a reaction to the dog bite dream or did I have the dream about a dog bite because my shoulder hurt from a cramp?

The shoulder pain caused the dream. It's easy to hurt your shoulder without noticing until it starts healing. It's weird how we never get used to the fact dreams aren't real while they're happening. Just slipping into an alternative reality every night thinking it's our life until we quickly find out it isnt

Very true how you don't know it's not real when it's happening. A few weeks ago I fell asleep on the couch and had a dream I was somewhere and couldn't remember where my car was. Within the dream I questioned if I was dreaming and concluded I wasn't and had to find my car to get home, then still within the dream I woke up and realized I had been dreaming about the lost car,. Then still dreaming, I got off the couch and did a few things in the kitchen. Then I woke up for real and was like wtf was that! I had a dream within a dream during the summer also but not as detailed. Weird stuff!

I sometimes dream that it's nighttime, and that I've left my car in some huge parking lot, and I'm looking for it for hours without being able to find it. I'm wondering if it was stolen or not. Then the lot starts to clear out because it's so late, and there are fewer and fewer cars, but I still can't find my car.

Every time you go to sleep you die and your cells replace you.

Every morning we wake up a new person.

Dreams as just as much a part of our reality as waking life. They are necessary for our survival -- when you don't dream, you soon die.

Usually it's the dreams which are influenced by your senses and not otherwise. Your creative subconscious just adds some of your senses to your dream.

Dreams have two tasks: 1. The new impressions of the day will be built into your worldview and the rest will be disposed of 2. Ensuring you don't wake up to whatever is happening outside by integrating your senses into your dream

you could have pulled a muscle as you slept, but if you workout or do physical labor sometimes you dont know when youve pulled a muscle until you wake up because the healing process cant fix something like that overnight so it will leave you in pain when you were not originally. perhaps your body knew you would be in pain when the dog showed up and you became actually in pain as the threat of the dog became real, then the bite. perhaps that was a polite way of your body warning you, you will be in pain when you wake up so that you dont accidentally push yourself too hard or get confused by the pain.

How, and why, did the dog bite your shoulder in your dream?

It was a regular dream and I was walking outside with someone. I saw the dog like a doberman about 20-30 feet away. Next thing I knew was on top of me with its paws on my shoulders and had me pinned down. It had bitten my shoulder but let go and it didn't notice much pain in the dream. I was trying to shake it off and get away but it was still had me pinned but wasn't attacking so I relaxed and stopped struggling with it. Then I woke up and the shoulder was sore like a cramp and it went away pretty quick once I got up.

I was walking outside

This is your subconscious telling you not to go outside. If I were you I'd board up my windows and live in the basement from now on.

Nah, I wasn't afraid and it wasn't a nightmare, even with the dog on me it wasn't mauling me and I was calm.

I'm not the stay at home with windows boarded up type.

Just remember, Teddy, you have to use transparent red tape on all the cracks around your doors and windows, or the "bad things" will get in and take you.

Better question is are you the dreamer or the dreamed

Freddy Krueger is coming after you.

Dreams have their own reality, I believe the answer is both things could be true, there is a bidirectional communication between the physical and non physical aspects of the universe.

More precisely, the physical and the non physical are differente manifestations of the same reality, we are all one.
