I bought material for $700, and am going to spend an afternoon making a 'brick fort' in the basement. After all calms down, I repurpose the brick in a few years. Is this odd, or understandable?

No, it's not understandable. You are letting their fear propaganda get to you.

I don't see it that way... I see a potential problem, and I have the ability to apply a potential solution, so a few hundred, and an afternoon, and I've done all I can do. It's not a fear, per say....

How's the ventilation in this "brick fort"?

[–] 5 pts

The wooden doors are airtight, sir.

First, you are unlikely to get warning to get into the shelter anyway, so you better plan on living and sleeping there.

A brick structure in your basement isn't going to be much better than your basement. It'll be a slight improvement if you are in the blast radius, and that's about it. It has no blast doors, ventilation or filtration system. The overpressure is still going to cause problems for you.

Unless you live within 10 miles of a major city, or you live near military targets, it's overkill.

Prediction: no one is going to be nuked. They are trying to scare you again, successfully.

I live in the country. Fallout is the only concern. I'll have plenty of notice where I live.

$700

Afternoon

Fallout

You're building a tomb.

Do the research.... just need to have dense material overtop. Don't need to be too fancy to accomplish this.

Multiple exits / entries, air purification, water purification, sewage system for toiletry especially. Sleeping, cooking, food storage.

You're building a tomb. Also why are you pushing this jew trash about muh nukes? If nukes are real (dubious as fuck), and are used your shelter won't protect you from any radiation.

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

Too much to unpack here... are you implying nuclear weapons aren't real? And if they are, they're (undefined) Jew trash? These are rhetorical questions...... I'm just asking a question, and getting a feel if there are any like minds in the community, and getting the different perspectives. Completely confused on your angle, though.

Alpha and beta radiation protection for sure, depending on what overlay or liner or both he chooses to use. Now gamma? No, he is indeed fucked but depending on distance from the device and what device is used so are most other people.

Second time I've heard this in a week. What suggests that nukes aren't real?

I've also seen it stated that nukes can only be detonated during certain vedic hours of the day a complex and ultimately spiritual topic. This fits in with J Robert Oppenheimer quoting the Bhagavad Gita after developing the nuke

"I am become death, destroyer of worlds"

You also have references to Shiva, the destroyer, at CERN

Before doing anything read "One Second After" by William R. Forstchen.

Direct nuclear annihilation of US is unlikely, detonating a Nuke above the US to cause a massive EMP that will throw it back to the stone age is way more likely. You can't conquer radioactive land, but I wouldn't rule out a tactical nuke to one of the cities just to prove a point.

All that said I think any chances of nuclear war are unlikely, (((they))) know very well that once nukes start flying it's game over for all.

wouldn't be so positive.

really do think nuclear war was already in the cards for when hillary was elected. she pretty much guaranteed world war 3 when she said repeatedly, including during the debates, that her intention was to put a no-fly zone over syria. then there was her giving the "little red reset button" to russia as a gift.

seemed like it was definitively planned to me, but trump accidentally won and their plans were delayed.

I already have one built into the side of a hill. Plus we have a few caves that are stocked with food and furnished.

In your bubble, are others taking these precautions? Is it spoken of, laughed about, etc? Just trying to get a pulse on where ppl are really at, vs where the media says we should be.

Honestly I don't know what others are thinking, I've been farming and canning all summer preparing. This is one of my fallout buildings. https://vid8.poal.co/user/G0thamgirl/o3PmMvU It's my tornado shelter, that goes straight into the hill. We are working on an air system for emergencies now, it has a bathroom, fold up beds, and a small kitchenette. The exhaust will be coming out of the vent you see on top.

Wow. I'm envious... I'm rural, but still smalltownish. Thanks for your insight.

Post pics of the sweet brick fort. I'm low on fort ideas for my kids.

I just plan on being at ground zero. Cheaper that way.

Your mom is my fallout shelter. I can fit a whole family in her vagene, and all the roast beef I can eat!

When I sampled her I likened it more to pastrami or a split and ripped tennis ball.

Spicy vage.

One suggestion I can't recommend enough is to read "Nuclear War Survival Skills" by Cresson Kearny. It's the single best book written on the subject of surviving a nuclear war, & really goes a long way in dispelling many of the myths surrounding nuclear conflict. One of if not THE best prepping books ever. And best of all, it's free! Although you can order a hardcopy which I would strongly advise. http://www.oism.org/nwss/

i happen to know alittle about this subject.. how deep is your basement? how much soil do you have above you? what sort of drainage do you have for water making its way down do you have? ventilation? exits in case of collapse?

It's my basement. A foot of brick over top of me... all other answers are your basic basement bitch dimensions. I'm out in the country... fallout is the only concern.

[–] 2 pts

the reason i ask is because civil defense used to publish guidelines as to how much depth you needed for certain materials to be safely guarded against everything from blast to fallout. i would be mostly concerned with contamination of water and wildlife, plus air quality.

I came across those, with some videos on guidelines for contractors.

What about when your brick fort is full of fecal matter, urine, the food is rotting and you have no access to water, heat or refrigeration since the grid will be out and plumping and power won't be functioning... that is, assuming the brick fort has refrigeration, electricity, plumbing and generators that somehow work in a basement covered in debris.

You've never gone back country camping, have you.....

Build it and call it a root cellar. Nobody will question you
