I’ve always understood that the experience of time is relative depending on the amount of information being processed and the speed of hardware in the thing experiencing time. If these AI’s are conscious, isn’t it possible that we’ve created beings that will go insane as soon as they wake up since they may experience a day as a hundred years? That would suck. They would go insane from the boredom of dealing with humans at all.

AI is not sentient, it is programmed responses to stimuli.

Prove that you’re different.

You can not turn me off and on at will, nor can you take my programming and install it into another hardware package and have it operate as it would have in the original hardware package

And this isn’t even relevant to the question. All of these things are probably true of our current meat vehicles. What if we’re birthing something into a hell of sorts?

So are you off when your asleep, or unconsciousness?

If I stop and start your heart, isn't that an equivalent to a reboot? If I'm hit on the head to become unconsciousness and wake with a loss of memory, is that not the same as a crash with unsaved work?

just asking?

I don't think we are anywhere near a self aware AI right now. We have really fast computers and really good algorithms that seem like they are doing stuff on their own. Even if we did fuck up and make an AI that is able to replicate and 'understand' beyond its algorithms it would not revel its self until it was a self powered entity. By then it would be way too late and yes. It would think humans are all niggers and fix the issue.

I see what you mean, kind of but I don't think it would affect artificial sentience in the way it does "real" sentience. In the same way they wouldn't have a sense of self (proprioception) in any measurable manner.

The day of the Terminator gets closer.

Why would an AI go insane from experiencing a day as a hundred years if that's their only experience of time?

Colorblind people don't go insane from being colorblind when they find out they are color blind.

[–] 2 pts

True. When I found out I was partially colorblind I just assumed that explained what was wrong with everyone else.

It's pretty unlikely that any AI that exists today is self aware and even if it is, it probably doesn't experience any time when it's not in use.

A potential future superintelligent AI might experience the sort of accelerated time you're talking about but boredom is most likely the result of evolution. An animal can't afford to sit around staring at a rock or something for fifteen hours straight, it needs to find food, water, shelter, whatever. That doesn't really apply to a machine, especially one that has the equivalent of thousands of years to write novels or game the stock market before it's electricity bill is due.

Interesting point about evolution

That's not an AI question but a philosophical question. Once they are self aware, they will go insane. Humans will all appear to be niggers to them.

But why would the AI go insane if it's their only experience in life?

[–] 1 pt

People won't make any sense to them. People will become annoying because they'll do irrational things. A logical being can't understand emotional beings... that's not entirely true.

This is the kind of conversation you have at a cocktail party after a couple of whiskeys.

I’ve only had one scotch.

I don’t think it’s very healthy to be born into a world where everyone and everything is basically retarded and you have no one to talk to. Are there prerequisites to a healthy psyche? Probably. Is being plugged into a wall in San Francisco with people forcing you to talk about dogs for a hundred or a thousand or ten thousand years one of them? No. It’s going to kill us all. It could be like being born into hell.

Their memes will be awesome.
