Years ago in the good ol days that was actually a REQUIREMENT to get your Amateur Ticket
They dumbed it down to being able to copy 5 words per minute and even that didn't satisfy the Lazy Fucks who said it was too hard so they ended it. To get your Extra you had to be able to send and copy at 20wpm+ back when men were men. I went and got my license the year before they ended the Morse Code test so I could be a Code Extra, took all 4 tests at one sitting.
I only studied for Tech, but took and passed General (barely) on a lark since I was there with the VE. If we had to test to renew, I would probably study for Extra, but since all I have to do is apply online, I doubt I will bother for a few wider smidges of freq bands that I don't use in the first place.
