Over the summer I bought my first smoker. Electric, under $200. Hard to hold Temps. If the outside air hits the mid 50s or windy, it's over. I don't want to spend money on one when this one works fine. What to do? Cut metal to fit the sides n top, pop rivet them on. Glue on ceramic tile? Lol, ideas man!

Welding blanket

Edit: I don’t really use my smoker in the winter, but my buddy uses his year-round and he uses a welding blanket (or two) to insulate it during the colder months

take it inside and vent the smoke via a smoke hood? i would think that insulating it would retain too much heat, causing other problems. idk. i misread the post to begin with, and as a dedicated ex smoker with 27 years of experience under my belt, i thought that i had something to bring to the table. i was wrong.

I read that as "Ideas for insulting smoker?".

Build a small enclosure around it to keep the wind off it and trap a bit of the lost heat.

Definitely don't want any rain in your insulation either.

Around the outside of the smoker hot water tank wrap, mineral wool board with liner, wool duct wrap, or similar items should all work.

Grab a roll of tape for it and tape all the corners edges, and openings you have to cut. Seal it up nice.

Just make sure everything has temperature rating suitable to where you'll apply it.

Look at metallic type water heater insulation blankets.

It sounds like your losing temp due to convection.

Anything that stops the wind should help.

Real thin metal. Sun out, no wind, holds temp. Sun in and out, A little breeze, it's all over.

Get a metal 55 gallon drum and cut the bottom off and open the top bunghole. Might want to drill a 2" hole on the side near the bottom for better airflow. Could weld a 90° elbow on the 2" hole to prevent wind from getting in directly. You could also thread the cord through it. This would keep it out of the weather for under $150. Some nearby shop might give you a drum for free (they usually have to pay for disposal anyways. Might have some shit in it but you could rinse it out).

I like that. Was thinking sumthing similar. Thanks.

Yeah might want to fasten a wood handle or two to the sides of the drum for lifting it off in case it gets hot too.

Oh and the 2" bung on top should be 2"FPT if you wanted to put an angled pipe on there to keep the rain out.

Sounds like a piece of crap. I run my smoker when it's snowing and it just adds more fuel to the fire automatically.

It is the cheapest electric made. Crap.

Is the smoker sealed?

I read the post as

"Ideas for insulting smoker"

  1. "You like sucking on fags, gov'na?"

  2. "Your breath smells like ass"

  3. "Enjoy your early grave, Puffy McPufface"
