I agree.. It seems nonsensical....until you realize that its task is no longer information retrieval; Google is now used for mind control and propaganda indoctrination of a populace.....just as the task of a movie is no longer entertainment....it's mind control and propaganda indoctrination of a population. China understood the real value of the internet early on, and firewalled all large Western sites, and just built CCP-run versions of them. (eBay, Amazon, Facebook, Messenger, PayPal.....are all blocked by The Great Firewall in China...and there are Chinese CCP run versions of each of them inside that firewall.) Now, Western leaders have seen how effectively China can not only indoctrinate their populace, but control them, at a very individual level, using social credit scores and digital currency. That's next for us.
