Threads is a documentary style movie about the effects of nuclear war.

Story takes place just a few days before a war between the US and the USSR in Iran. The story location is in the city of Sheffield, UK. Survivors of the blast struggle to survive for up to years after the conflict.

The movie itself is dated but I think it holds up well.

There is one that takes place near SF. Very realistic and has Kevin Costner appearance. Testament, 1983.

Yes. There's some really great moments in that film that demonstrate the real cost of the price of surviving a nuclear blast.

At that scale of nuclear destruction, I would just end it.

Yeah I kind of think that way too. I mean unless you're super wealthy and have a whole long living ecosystem to survive in. That made me think of one of my favorite books "Alas Babylon", written in 1959 about a nuclear blast and surviving afterward.

After the fall of the USSR, declassified documents showed the filmmakers had greatly underestimated the number of missiles Russia actually had pointed at the UK, so, if anything, it's rather over-optimistic about the aftermath.

Yes I watched it on recommendation here. Really great stuff. I archived a copy for myself. There's a film called "Testament" made in the early '90's I think. A bit difficult to find but worth watching. Also the animated film "Where the wind blows" is amazing.

I believe there are a few of these. I’ve seen one of them.

Yep, actually own a copy of that film. Very well made, realistic, and scary. It's somewhat an uncredited remake of a previous 1966 British made-for-TV film, "The War Game", which was later judged 'too horrifying' to be shown to the general public at the time, so it was shelved and never shown. Own a copy of that one as well. Here is a descriptive link for it: "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_War_Game", and here is a link to the film: "https://www.bitchute.com/video/wNj6UJLBdWT5/".

Yeah it's so sad.

I liked the attention to detail such as the children having no formal education. Truly bombing humanity back to the stone age.
