I've bowled strikes, thrown bulls-eyes, chipped in, and made a variety of unlikely goals. We all have I'm sure.

My favorite was an assist during a semi-final. My d-man passed the puck up to me along the boards where I was waiting to the side of the face-off dot. I started to skate it up the ice, the opposing d-man skates towards me, and I see our center skating hard up the middle of the ice with a defender in tow. Hit the brakes, saucer pass over d-man's stick, hit the tape on my center's stick inches beyond his defender's outstretched stick, and homey makes it count on a backhand goal. We go on to win that season's league.

While I've made game winning goals in the past, I think an assist is just as rewarding; or at least in my case more memorable.

"Please, God, don't let him hit the ball to me. Please, Lord, I know I'm going to get hit in the face by the ball when I try to catch it."

Winning my first match at the state wrestling tournament my senior year. My record was like 26-9 and he was something like 34-3. I was sick as a dog leading up to the tournament (probably 100% psychosomatic due to being nervous) and basically still felt like shit up until the moment I stepped on the mat. After we shook hands and the ref blew the whistle, it was on.

I don't think I've ever wrestled a better match in my life. This was 15 years ago and it's not really something I often dwell on, so I don't remember it super clearly. But I whooped his ass, winning something like 6-1.

5k race. We went to a course through some woods that I have never been to before. The girls ran first (a 3k) and then went onto the course to cheer us on. When I saw them, I was middle of the pack and asked them "how much further". They said you're almost there. SHIT. I started picking up my pace a lot. What I didn't know they were talking about the end of their race course, not mine.

I thought I had like a few hundred meters to go, it was 2k and I didn't know it. I start running like the last lap of an 800m and I'm blowing past everyone thinking that I'm going to see the finish line and start sprinting. I'm getting tired and want to slow down but tell myself "you're almost there". I keep that pace going for the next 5-6 minutes. The whole time I'm telling myself almost there. I'm no longer passing anyone and thought I took a wrong turn somewhere. See the little flags and keep going. My legs are feeling like jello and I'm having a hard time breathing.

FINALLY. A clearing and I see the finish line and people. I sprint with everything I have left. When I crossed the finish line I collapsed and was hyperventilating. I was breathing as fast as I could and it felt like I wasn't getting enough air into me. Someone put an oxygen mask on me and told me I was first place. I didn't care. It took me almost 10 minutes before I could breath normally again.

Then I found out that not only did I finish first, I shaved almost 3 minutes off of my best time. All because I believed I was almost done. All of the belief I had that other people were just faster than me went out the window. Right then I learned that if I was willing to push myself and take on pain, I could beat anyone.

I played on an ice hockey team and our coach was a tough guy who was there for community services after a drunk driving arrest. He forced me to play with two negros and I, being White, was the center on the "oreo line". I didn't want to be stuck there but i had to be the creamy center with a crunchy black biscuit on each side. We did a flying V and won the championship but that would take about an hour and a half to tell the whole story.

Wow! Did you have a Jewish goalie?

Lol, that sounds amazing. They should make a movie about it.

I know right. I picture Emilio Estevez in the lead role.

was playing second base, line drive was smoked to my right and i don't know how but i dove and caught it.

i somehow started diving for the catch as soon as the bat made contact with the ball. was surreal.

Never played sports, but we had a killer marching band!

As a sophomore on the JV football team (with an injured groin at the time), I kicked a perfect 53-yard coffin corner punt which resulted in an immediate turnover, giving us back the ball at the 1 yard line. Next play was a touchdown.

My first horse jumped into the air, all 4 legs off the ground during a show. It was like airs above ground dressage move but it was an accident. It was so fun, felt like flying. I was surprised I didn’t fall off.
