For me, I think true forgiveness comes with deep understanding. We were all born into this confusing shithole, with clueless parents, confused grandparents, frustrating families, and mind-numbing cultures built up from massive societal confusion - and then at a young age we are told to fend for ourselves. Is it any wonder that mistakes are made - each and every day, continuously, by almost everyone?
To me it's a wonder that anyone even begins to wake up and that we get along as well as we do.
My answer to your question was to be alone, for many years - preferring nature and solitude to interaction with others until finally one day I found out who I was and understood more of what was going on. Then the forgiveness came and even the love began to return as I now understood more of the pitfalls and troubles various members of my family went through as they grew up and lived, and the direct connection between their experiences, and the idiotic, harmful, ignorant, selfish choices they made.
The burden eventually lifted with this understanding, and I forgave them all - but I still prefer my solitude.
If God seems far away, spend time with flowers, trees, small birds, and gaze into the calm eyes of very young children. Enjoy more warm sunlight, cool breezes, and campfires.
