The only time it actually works to own nothing and be happy, is when you're a newborn infant suckling at your mother's breast. At that point you start to accumulate personal property, and that slows down the fading of the happiness of infancy somewhat. That motorcycle in your garage now helps you feel young and carefree again, because you can't actually be young and carefree anymore.
Take away an adult's stuff, and you will make him severely depressed.
