If I try to look up "pandemic" but don't want "covid" I'd normally do: pandemic -covid or pandemic not covid. Now all I get is covid shit. WTF. edit: Boolean search seems to work with yandex and mojeek but not google and it's clone ddg.

Google doesn't work at all. Try this for yourself.

Pick any term and search it on google. Pick something non-political or partisan. For example if you pick "Chicago Cubs" it will initially tell you, "About194,000,000 results."

However, if you scroll down to the bottom, there will only be a few pages of results. Go through and only 107 results are available. Where are my other 194 million options?

Perhaps I have to "repeat the search with the omitted results included." But doing that only gets you a a handful of extra pages and a total of 406 results.

There are only 406 pages on the internet that talk about the Chicago Cubs? But you told me 194 million? What is going on here?

Choose any term you like and you will find similar. Then see why you can never use google again.

Similar happens with Bing and DDG though less bad. Yandex indeed gives you far more options, it appears.

Exactly. OTOH, I know plenty of people that use it preferentially. I don't use google and have stopped using ddg because it's just a google clone. So is startpage. Yandex is better but will still pull up U.S mainstream garbage.
