The name has to relate to the city where it's registered. So far I have the following choices:

"Hot Chocolate" / Cocoa, Fl "Another Sex Change" / Sheboygan, Wi "Curly You Moe Him" / Laramie, Wy "Period" / Tampa, Fl "Pyorrhoritic Pachyderm" / Tuskaloosa, Al "Beach Waffle" / San Diego, Ca (you know... sandy Eggo) "We Got a Problem" / Houston, Tx

...but I don't like any of them. Any suggestions?

Shouldn't "Imma Bouta" be registered in Tecumseh, Oklahomo?

We both know you've never been to climax

Register it at your home port, unless you plan on sailing out of port a lot.

If you register it far away, the CG and harbormasters are gonna fuck w/ you and make sure you paid all the stuff you gotta pay every year. When they see foreign port markers its just an extra reason to check you out.

Renaming is a RITUAL! lol. Do the Rituals! pay attention to the rules! All the old lettering must be gone! And new one applied.

Rename it before you register or its a nightmare in some states to change.

Pay your environmental fees. Pay your purchase tax (carry copy of that on the boat!). Pay your harbor fees. Get used to paying.

I Assume you're pulling it out of the water and have a place to store the boat.. Otherwise you've made a very expensive decision, because it costs a small fortune to own a slip, and @ 28' it's VERY expensive ESPECIALLY relative to your boat value.

Good news is you can register everything online nowadays, except proof of ownership. PRINT EVERYTHING. Don't forget you need you VIN numbers off your boat: they require a pencil rubbing for this. It's usually starboard and aft on your hull.

Giant learning curve. Absolutely worth it.

You're on vacation everytime you get aboard. And despite all the money you spent, you still can't put a price on that.

HH: any city where there’s a sane man.

"So gay" / san fransisco

Traditionally you would name it after your daughter, wife or mother.

Aside from using their name, people will also name the boat after an activity or descriptor (positive) of one of them.

You could also choose a name that sounds awesome being hailed 3x on the radio. My favorite is "three sheets to the wind"

The best name I've seen recently is "social distancing"

Why not something simple and high-class? I suggest "Bacon" / Mecca

you don't rename a boat.

It's salvage.

Bad luck just the same.

Maybe I should name it that. "Bad Luck" / Las Vegas, Nv.

Bad luck? I've never heard of this superstition. I heard of bananas and pineapples in relation to good or bad luck at sea, but not the name.

What if the boat was completely rebuilt to a completely different design? It's really not the same boat. Different weight, deck, stringers, bulkheads, railings, everything except the hull itself.

What if the hull is modified as well, does that still count?

I will have to look into this.

Endurance. Good luck with that.

I would never name it that. That was my G-Uncle Shackleton's ship.

And that didn't work out too well for yo uncle..

No, but what an epic feat of rescue. Holy God. 800 miles in a 22' open boat through the Drakes Passage. Incredible.

"Movin' On" / Mobile Alabama "Long Distance" / Fargo North Dakota "In Port" / Atlanta Georgia
