What's the Dumbest Thing you Stocked Up on During Lockdown because you were afraid you could never buy what you wanted / needed again? Do you now regret it?

The hope that normies might see through the bullshit.

the stockpile dwindled very rapidly

Alcohol... Lots of Alcohol...

Problem is , I don't drink. I figured I could trade or sell when SHTF...

One time I made some hard liquor by accident. I had left a container of pineapples in a friend's fridge and didn't go back for 2 weeks or so. I'm sure it wasn't high quality, but alcoholics and alcohol lovers will drink just about anything with alcohol in it if they're desperate.

The point is that alcohol is actually pretty easy to make especially if you don't care about the quality.

in a shtf situation the acquisition of fermentable sugars is the crux, fermentation is the easy part.

Condoms. Just didn't meet as many people as I thought I would.

I wouldn't say stupid, but I bought a lot of ESP32 microcontrollers, Raspberry PIs (quite a few pi zeros and pi 4s) and solar panels. If civilization is going to collapse, having some low-power computing devices around would be powerful.

Makes a lot of sense. You remind me of the film "Testament". I think it's an old made-for-tv, really well made film about a nuclear blast. It was made right before pc's became ubiquitous and the only communication device left that worked was a ham radio.

Microcontrollers are great. If ever things collapse, power efficiency will be central. I wonder whether there are IDEs that run on smartphones...

Toilet bowls. I got like 6 of them now. It was my mistake. The wife has terrible handwriting and I took the grocery list to the hardware store.

I don't think I stocked up on anything. I had fun doing whatever I wanted. Empty roads were awesome.

I went to a bunch of national parks and they were totally empty. Totally surreal experience. Now they have a reservation system.

wasnt it great. they were pushing the fear hard back then. i told a girl i was fucking that if someone told me to wear a mask that i would start coughing. she flipped out and told me that was a crime and i would goto jail. fuckin stupid people. i still see people driving alone wearing a maks

I still see people on motorcycles without helmets wearing masks.

Probably sanitizing alcohol....not that it hurts having it around, i can always barbecue stuff with it, but i got like 20 small bottles... this was at the peak of hysteria, but at least i didnt go crazy with toilet paper lol

Pasta and powdered milk. I still have about 20 boxes of mostaccolli, lol.

Hang on to that pasta. I have feeling there will be another "shortage" this fall/winter. Headline will read, something, something climate change/drought effected the wheat harvest in canada.

Farmers have already stated if you think food prices are high now wait until November, you’re using last years crops until then.

yep. Im going to spend the next couple months stocking up on more stuff before the shortage/price jumps.

I already had enough canned/dry food to last long enough. Powdered milk turned out to be a good investment storage wise.

Before the zerg rush even started I went and bough lost of meat and filled my freezer with it, and also stocked myself up on any hygiene essentials that I use, all in order to avoid going to the shop for at least a month (ended up lasting a lot longer).

The only thing that I still have left over from the lockdowns is about a dozen soap bars. Good to have them, but I obviously underestimated how long it would take to use them, and once zerg rush was done I restocked back on liquid soap.

I'd say it was all successful since not once did I have to wait in those crazy street long queues to buy anything. I did laugh at the unprepped normies and my paranoia was vindicated.

Guns.

Without a doubt, hand sanitizer. When it was all out everywhere and people were flipping them for 3x the usual cost, I found a big honkin' bottle of it at normal price. I guess I liked having something that was scarce. Never used it.
