I don't want to support microsoft and I don't want them controlling my computer.

Pros and cons of ditching them?

Any guides or tutorials or the process?

Any advice is appreciated!

Yup; Debian x86, Raspberry Pie OS x86 or Puppy Linux x86 are what you will have to go for. Mint dumped x86 support a while ago. Puppy is the most user friendly followed by Raspberry. Debian is less user friendly; but they still offer and older 32 bit version. Either way; you will have a machine capable of surfing Poal :)

Really? That blows. I didn't know they dropped 32bit support. In that case I say go with puppy. I also have that running on an even older bronze keyboard PPC based Mac PowerBook and it's ok tho slightly primitive.

If you wan't something a little prettier; Peppermint Linux still has a 32bit version. It takes a bit more RAM than Puppy, but it looks a bit better.

Good to know. My biggest issue with puppy is its limited repos. Seems like I have to do a lot more manual work to get things running on it. Or maybe mint and MacOS has jut made me lazy. Guess if I really want to go get dirty a net install of Debian and the next 18 hours of apt-get will yield a totally semi useful system.
