Romance novels are for weak women and fags. Look at 50 shades of grey for example. It's basically about a billionaire male doing whatever he wants to a weak woman and paying her to keep her mouth shut and open her legs when he wants.

I've never read a Harlequin Romance kind of romance novel, but I have read a couple of modern gothic romances. Those are the kind where the heroine, usually a young woman, finds herself alone in a mysterious mansion or on a deserted island, taking care of someone, and weird things start to happen that create a mystery. Gothic romances can be entertaining if they are well written.

The Charterhouse of Parma. By Stendhal. I've read it a long time ago but I still remember the story, which is a good indicator that the book was good.
