I just dont get why we are expected to like or respect blood family. I mean if they werent family I would never know or care to know them. The only common factor is we are related somehow. I sure the fuck aint gonna love you.

Some were here the last few days, Im so glad they are gone. It really fucked with my and Dogs routine. Yes I am a creature of habit, at this stage I dont like it interrupted.

I just dont get why we are expected to like or respect blood family. I mean if they werent family I would never know or care to know them. The only common factor is we are related somehow. No to your meaning but yes to the second point inside. Blood is all that matters for "family". Others are not your family. It's not the same and never will be. It's not possible. You may love the guy besides you fighting in war but it won't even be remotely close if he were your actual brother. To make that claim is retarded.

Anyone has the potential to break your heart. It's easier to develop closer friendships that feel more like family than the family you were born with, but it's mostly an illusion. Try to live with one of your best, most trusted mates for a few months/years, see how much of a "bro" thing you got going, shouldn't take long to make or break it.

Family is a deeper bond than friendship. It's a duty to each other, or it was, we in the west don't have family values being promoted and enjoyed these days, quite the opposite in fact. Tradition is a dirty word because it brings up all those devastating historical offences like gays not being allowed to marry and whores having to keep their legs closed until they could marry.

Speaking as a single dad of a teenager I can admit with some shame that if I knew just how screwed my/future generations were I might not have had kids at all with anyone, ever.

I believe arguments could be made that loving your family increases your likelihood of spreading your genes, ensuring survival. Moral arguments could also be made (if you bring a child into this world or adopt one, you are responsible for taking good care of it).

Did your family like and respect you? I suspect that if your family showed you lots of love and respect, you'd naturally love them back and wouldn't ponder this question.

It's easy to at least like someone who showers you with love and respect. You say you own dogs. Isn't that what they do? Shower you with love and sometimes respect. At least unless you buy a shepard dog from a farm and you realize it's workhorse on crack, that has to be exhausted each day until it falls into a coma and it only cuddles when it's nearly comatose... but normal dogs shower you with lots of love.

They do not have to guilt trip you with "but you must love me! I'm your canine!". It's easy to love them back.

Well, thinking about it, it's also possible that your parents love you so much, that they prevent you from living your life. By not allowing you take risks, making it difficult to move away, engulfing you. But that's a very selfish form of love without any care about your future.
