Real musicians play their own instruments or sing with their own voices, without artificial enhancement. If you can't get up on a bare stage with a guitar or a piano and blow an audience away, you are nothing. Very few pop musicians today have any musical talent of any kind.
Sometimes, but don't think that a guy playing a synth CAN'T play piano. He probably started as a kid, and had lessons. Synth is a logical progression for many when they get tired of the same old piano sound.
You have to know how to play music PLUS understand computers and interfaces. This confuses the fuck out of stoned out hippies with long braids and a guitar. That's why they shit-talk people who make synth music.
I personally don't like the sound of most of it, but it still takes more knowledge than guitar.
