Redwings have gone to shit lately.

There's a youtube channel called "rose anvil" that chops boots in half to demonstrate construction and material quality, look there to see what boots are better than redwings.

I know one manufacturer is better but more expensive, Nick's Boots.

Like Roman said, you gotta pay for them anymore. I've been wearing these for almost 2 years now. I work EMS and help my bud with construction on the side, these still feel damn near like new.

Keen still makes good shit.

I've had a pair of keen sandals for 5 years and recently bought a pair of their lightweight steel toed boots that make my redwings feel like junk. Good brand and they can be had on sale for a very good price.

Whatever you're doing to the top of your instep is taking its toll on the boots. Are you lifting sheets of plywood or sheetrock into place with your toes?

[–] 2 pts

Nah. I’m a mason. Picking and kicking rocks all day.

I assumed you work with cement from the pictures. The leather has been dried out oil your boots .my redwings are going on two years and are just recently wearing through at the toe

Oiled em, it’s the threads that gave up.

kinda the wrong boot for the trade, when i ran on construction crews we all had solid leather boots from or (the boots picked is for example) the leather lasts a long time so long as you take care of it clean the dirt off polish them up every few weeks. When the sole wears out it should only cost $50-100 to get them resoled at a cobler.

All the years i worked construction i only had maybe half a dozen pairs, a couple insulated for the winter and another couple pairs for the rest of the year. I never wore any of the leather out and i was hard on boots.

My current pair of work boots i got 6 years ago and have had them resoled twice, I like the leather welted boots they just last.

Getting tough to find cobblers these days .I have to drive an hour to get to one. Was actually thinking of asking to work for the guy to learn the trade.

I buy the Big5 Response Gear boots. They last any where from 6 months to a year. However I get them on sale for $40 all day long.

Edit: $35 https://www.big5sportinggoods.com/store/details/response-gear-side-zip-ii-mens-service-boots/5385104970005/_/A-4335543

Damn, that’s cheap boot. What’s the comfort factor?

[–] 1 pt

I wear em every day for years now. No issues.

Seems like all their work boots are reasonably priced.

Drags feet through field of nails and screws..

King toe is what you need, do you work concrete? My reds usually last two years, but thats wearing them exclusively . That looks like a cheaper pair.

[–] 1 pt

Concrete and stone.

[–] 2 pts

Man concrete will fuck up leather

Nick's, White's, Frank's, or Hoffman's. Doesn't get better than those 4.

Here are some more suggestions:

I’ve worn nothing but RWs my whole life with the avg lifespan of 6-7yrs. Masonry, mining and everyday use. This last pair isn’t even two yrs old and I’m almost through the soles. Not the first time the piss poor quality of RWs has come up here and elsewhere. Wtf?

[–] 0 pt

Yeah man! Wtf?!

Lol, the convo with -

What are you, the boot police?

If I was I’d haul your ass in for neglect.

Never oiled mine even once. I wear the Wellington style. Slip on, slip off. They always took about six months plus to break in. After a while they are like wearing moccasins.

Every time I’d go in for new ones the salesmen were always amazed at how old they were. They keep records so they know. Plus there’s a year date stamped in them. Granted I’d wear them until just about falling off, because they were so damn comfortable and I dreaded the break in period of new ones.

Never had a problem with mortar or cement drying them out. Never wore gloves either and my hands were tough as nails so take that for what you may.The only man I ever shook hands with that had rougher and tougher was a guy that peeled bark off trees with a drawknife for a living. Lol, and we both cocked our heads in surprise and laughed about not ever having shook a rougher hand. Some fabrics I’m just not allowed to touch.

I swear that first pair lasted 10 yrs! Pretty sure I’ve only bought six pair in forty plus years. Not having laces and the added seams, eyelets or hooks doesn’t give places for mortar to cling to has helped in longevity I suppose. Basically all you have is the side seam to eventually pull apart at the ankle. Inner heel cup leather always wore away, but that never bothered me.

This last pair has been a disappointment with the sole wearing within 1/16” of being gone in less than two years. I’ve yet to fully get that glove like fit all the others had at this point. They definitely fuk’d something up and are charging a lot of way too much extra for fuk’n it up.

I’ll be look’n further into the suggestions in this thread for sure.

Doubt my hands can compare to yours, but send you know better what I’m talking about than ol krier.

[–] 1 pt

Thorogood boots. Be prepared to pay 200-300+

[–] 0 pt

I don’t know if I’m ready to trust another boot, maybe I’ll go cheap and be happy they last a year.

[–] 0 pt

I swear by the American Heritage moc toe and the military work boots.

Watch this guy's videos for more work boot info.

Doesn't Redwing have a lifetime warranty?

[–] 0 pt

I dunno, but if they do I’m sure they also have a way to kike out of it.
