One pair is military boots (link below), and the other is cowboy boots. The military boots have served me for 3 years, including Bagram, with the original inserts. The cowboy boots have been worn on and off for over a decade, and have scavenged boot inserts from old military boots.

Previously, I'd just wear the inserts out and keep wearing them. If they were that bad, I'd scavenge them from old boots/shoes or buy an inexpensive pair.

If you go to VA they wil fit you for free. A couple of my VFW buddies have foot issues. Otherwise, I'd recommend the "Good Feet Store" although they are pricy. RedWings is another good place. Depending on your feet you may need specially fitted inserts. Good Luck Patriot! P.S., I've been rolling around since the Tet Offensive so don't have to worry about them feets.

Can you get free inserts while Active Duty? If so, it's a well kept secret. As for Good Feet Store, it looks like they cost far more than the boots itself. It might be worth it later after I try more reasonable options or when I get older. RedWings is likely the first place I'll check out if no one pops in with more suggestions. Good excuse for a motorcycle ride too.

Even when I buy new shoes or boots I remove the insoles and replace them with gel insoles from any show store, pharmacy, usually a little cheaper at a Walmart.

I don't mind paying an extra 10% for somewhere that's not walmart. And I forgot about pharmacies since I never use them.

You shouldn't need inserts with a high enough quality boot that's fitted right. But if you have to have them, go see a cobbler.

You may find that something like a Dr Scholl’s insert or a cheaper competitor will work just fine. I just bought a competitive brand at Walmart for $9 two days ago. Replace or just cover the existing insert. Worth a try at that price.

Although I haven't tried Dr Scholl's or cheaper equivalents, I was hoping to skip past that level. Still, it's probably worth it for the $9 inserts just so I have a better idea what to look for in an insole.

(expensive) Tread Labs has a really cool thing where they separate the arch support from the sole, so you can just repeatedly replace the cheap sole and keep your same insert. I swear by them.

Red Wing will fit you for inserts for free. You walk across this thing and they show you a digital model of your step, etc. Inserts are 65 bucks.

I have an extremely high arch, and flat ball, I just made custom inserts for years.. you might check out "SofSole" I've had good luck with their inserts as a base.

The cowboy boots have been worn on and off for over a decade

if they're welted cowboy boots and the soles are worn out you can get them resoled by a cobbler for fairly cheap and they'll feel like new. dpending on your feet you may or may not need insoles with them for awhile

You have to spend the money, about 60 bucks. Any good shoestore should have the apparatus you stand on. I use the redwing store, worth every penny.

Are we taking feet, or just socks? Either way, my wife buys my socks, and I’m not big into prosthetics.
