It's collaborative storytelling. You gather some friends, pick characters you'll play, nominate someone as a dungeon master to guide the overall session by setting the scene and choosing how non-player characters will behave, and go on an adventure. It's a great way to build friendships, creativity, problem-solving, negotiation, etc and get people off their screens. As a group you can decide what type of story you're going to tell. Even if the DM sets the framework for a heist, the actions of the players will determine if it's closest to Ocean's Eleven, Die Hard, or the Pink Panther.

Yes, there are some Woke lunatics...but simply dont play with them.

It's just a table top game. Orchestrated by a game keeper who creates or adheres to the rules of the game world. The game is usually curated to what the players like. Solving puzzles, turn based combat or role play. Decisions and observations are made based on a player's character and all the players usually try to work together to face some bad guy at the end.

In truth, it's a game that is the same every week. You roll dice, make jokes, order pizza and drink beer. If you are able to get into a good group of people it can be a blast. If not, its a wokists trans fag wet dream. So tread carefully.

I played as a youth and now I run a game for my niece and nephew. It works well to help develop deductive reasoning, problem solving and creativity. It spurs imagination, develops theater of the mind and keeps them off of screens and it gives my whole family a chance to sit down and all play a game together.

On a personal side, I created our game for the kids over the christmas of 2019. Little did we know that it was going to be a morale saver as the lockdowns and restrictions of the pandemic forced the kids and all of us in the family from "civil" society. The kids were 8 and 5 at the time and playing allowed for us to have a bit of an escape from the bullshit that was happening everywhere.

If you are interested in learning more about how to play there are tons of websites dedicated to it as well there is a pretty large streaming community nowadays that you can check out.

Yeah, there are a lot of trqns and fags in d and d now.

The game makers themselves have gone all woke and changed the characteristics of character development. In order to avoid coming across as insensitive. Certain character races have had their base stats modified for "inclusivity" because these fucking wokists can't figure out the game is based in fantasy (like their lives). Orcs, goblins (no stretch to figure out any real life connection to these races)and others were modified to suit the mob mentality du jour.

DnD has morphed from grim-fantasy to pure fantasy. All the green haired people who flocked to DnD are playing a different flavor than we did, and there ain't nothin wrong with that. At it's heart, its escapism wrapped in magic and swords.

DnD literally got woke for 5e. But the beauty of rules in your fantasy world is you ignore what you will. I ain't getting rid of orcs and kobolds don't look like dragons.

If you got a knack for storytelling, it can become pretty engaging. Character and plot development is a thing. And miniature wargaming has its own appeal as well. What DnD has that you don't : TIME. Its a fkin sink. Coordinating adults to play requires magic.

Personally I stick to 1.0 Pathfinder, which was made prior to the SJW kike infection, so it doesn't have any of the gay that D&D 5e has.

So true... got about 6 months into a nice campaign with some friends and then it evaporated because one of them flaked.

Lol I like how so many comments are "it will keep you away from screens".

Don't worry Theo, Artic Pirates will be fun.

Everyone is saying that it is full of fags now, and I just think to myself

Yeah, the game I'm starting is pretty full of fags too

[–] 1 pt

Well to be fair, all our characters are gay so...

Pirates 4 life they are all hating pretty hard

I think it is actually gonna be skin traders, but definitely with options for piracy.

Also, everyone will need to know the technical difference between flotsam and jetsam.

D&D is pretty faggy now, but if you want to play the same thing with 99% less faggoty jewish subversion check out Pathfinder 1.0. It's basically a D&D 3.5 edition spin off.

The 2.0 edition though is starting to have a lot of the same gay ass SJW bullshit in it, so steer clear.

Are you trolling or just really fucking lazy? Search the interwebs for the rules or go watch a couple youtube videos.

If you really want to know how it works, read the rules and go join a virtual group online or in person at a gaming store or something. You'll probably rage quit in a few weeks when you realize the group consists of a guy who sucks at story telling, an insufferable trans dragonkin liberal, someone who doesn't know the rules and is never ready when it's their turn, a cheater, and someone constantly trying to sabotage everything you do and calls is "role playing".

Then maybe you try looking around for a better group or even start one yourself. You spend hours preparing an intricate story full of excitement and surprises, and no one appreciates any of it.

That's how DnD works.

the rules

The PHB alone is a couple hundred pages!

[–] 1 pt

Lol, we used to joke about that many players hadn't even seen the PHB, much less read the rules.

[–] 0 pt

Yeah but the intro that tells you what the game is and how it works are only a few of those pages.

[–] 1 pt

Sounds like a game of controlled improv to me but I’ve never even gotten close to it

[–] 1 pt

Only tried once. We really didn't get past character creation before getting too stoned. Magic the gathering is nice

Meh. It's alright, I guess. Playing cards is just as good.
