Nope. Making deals does not work.

You decide to stop and then you stop. Then tomorrow you do it again, and the day after, and so on. And if you slip up, well it happens. One day at a time is the only way to make it.

This is the correct answer.

The underlying mechanism that controls this are the properties of our brain that control habituation. Once the brain has been habituated to a chemical it has been permanently rewired to prefer that state of existence because our bodies are ALWAYS fighting to conserve energy and will ALWAYS resist new rewiring efforts.

If it took 10 years of drinking to habituate (rewire) your brain into alcohol consumption it is going to take AT LEAST twice as long to rewire the brain out of the habit permanently. And, that is IF you are even aware of what habituation means and how hard you have to work to rebuild the neural networks through and around the damaged areas.

When people say don't do drugs, they don't mean don't do drug. What they mean is that once you are on that path permanently rewiring your brain, eventually you get to a point where there is no undoing the damage and you are going to have to grow new neural wiring around and through the damage.

This is why any drinker will be making the decision to stop every day for the rest of their life. Because the re-wired part of their brain will want to get off the wagon every single day.

Just stop bro. Just throw it all out and refuse to do it again

[–] 2 pts

Not gonna throw any out but I am trying to convince myself.

It sucks for a few weeks. But in a year you won't even remember them. And every day that you are successful in saying no makes the next day easier. Build pride in your will and control. Don't keep tearing yourself down.

Did you actually quit drinking and improve your life?

[–] 1 pt

I been thinkin about it a long time but it never happens. you know good intentions and all. I really got nothing else. No real reason besides knowing maybe I should. I smoke also and everyone I know who quit this shit died shortly after , for whatever reason. I got no real motivation. Maybe Im one of those fucks that this is whats keeping me alive.

I went from a 750 bottle of Johnny Walker every 2 days to nothing with the aid of Kratom. It's a trade off but works well.

I trtied that shit and still have some somewhere, did nothing for me.

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

There's a lot of garbage kratom out there. I've been getting it online.

I did also, couple years ago, different kinds. My nephew liked it but I have a weird tolerance for things.

Check out maeng da strains. Especially the red and green ones. Also, if you prefer to shop locally, OPMS is a pretty popular brand that works for a lot of people. I use the green vein maeng da strains from them. It's pretty much the highest grade you're going to find without looking online. Can personally vouch for it. With that being said, online is your best bet for top quality kratom. Hate to say it, but try looking over on Reddit. I've tried more kratom strains that did nothing, than I have tried strains that actually worked. A lot of trash kratom being sold these days. Try to find some being sourced straight from Indonesia. Try starting at around 5 grams. My sweet spot is around 7 grams. I've stuck with that number for around 3 years now and works pretty well.

Pay attention to your body. If you show significant physical signs, DTs, etc. when you quit, go see your doctor. It's important you don't ignore them.

[–] 0 pt

By the time you get the dts, your brain is fucked.

[–] 0 pt

Yeah - if you're physically addicted, there's a good chance your brain chemistry has changed. But the damage is repairable if medically supervised. You have to watch out for tremors, etc. and go slow.

Cold turkey on alcohol, if your body is reliant on it, is a bad thing. Alcohol is not other drugs.
