They aren't allowed to have private farms in North Korea. There are only government owned farms and most of that goes to the high class people in Pyongyang. They use human feces a fertilizer which gives many of them parasites. There was a soldier who escaped to South Korea through the border which is extremely tough to do and doctors were horrified how many parasites he had. There are some secret farms in the forests, but if they're caught it's treated as a serious crime.
