I think we have very good reason to doubt the propaganda fed to us about NK, but from the small things Ive learned, I think it looks like China from 30-40 years ago or so, with a smattering of semi-modern technology thrown in. Mostly, they seem vulnerable to food shortages, similar to what commy China frequently experienced. (People tend to produce more when they get better rewards, it seems.) I always keep in mind that a healthy chunk of their problems could be solved instantly if not for the crippling sanctions we impose on them.

People forget those sanctions are still in place.
