ADHD is a manifestation of "too much energy", meaning the boys (let's be real, the VAST MAJORITY of kids who get put on these narcotics are boys) simply aren't playing enough, or otherwise occupying their minds to a point where calm is reached. Show me a kid with ADHD. Give us a dodgeball field. After an hour, I'll have that kid ready to sit still and learn about dinosaurs and shit. Problem is, at least when I was in school, all physical activities were reserved for *after school* or for the 30-minute lunch period. So you take this boy who has ZERO interest in math, wake him up early, take him to class and drop him into math class. HE FUCKING HATES IT. All he wants to do is go wrestle with his dog, or play tag with his friends. I'm a firm believer that this need to play is indeed a *need* and it should be addressed *prior* to getting into the day's academics. It'd be cool to see a study done on this: compare the rate of ADHD diagnosis to a class who "plays more" the way I suggested to a regular class. But we can't do this- need to save the budget to pay the fucking DRAG QUEENS to come read to the kids (while they're already on amphetamine salts).
