I've been playing chicken with this company trying to see if they'll pay severance, but they are stubbornly not playing along. This makes me think, larger companies simply dont care enough to fire anyone, regardless of how little or lot of work they do. Sure, there formalities here and there, but it just seems so. ... soul sucking to say the least. I think i completely understand now why so many seat warmers stay at a company for years, and never once look to leave, because why give up a super cushy job where there's virtually no recourse for poor performance?

This happened at my old company.. Everybody got 3% no matter how good they did. Eventually people complained and then human resources redid the merit system. It became so hard to get raises that the good people left and we were stuck with the shitty under performing clowns. The company struggled for years after with all the dead weight. They are still there but they are a shell of what they could have been.
