You need to realize that this stories are dramatized. "Workers got shocked" so did I when I pulled my shirt out of the dryer. And that was on a primitive system where an ungrounded wire was stretched from city to city with out any shielding, breaks, or protective circuitry.

I remember one around June 2004 that made satelite tv kinda staticky for a couple of days. Scarred me for life.
