It always amazes me when I run across someone that has the entire device storage full of stuff from years of use.

Not really what I had in mind, but probably still a good thing to do.

That's why the nice men from the hospital come and see you quite often.

I should. How do you choose to do it?

Once a week, I download all email though a Thunderbird extension and delete it from servers. It gets zipped and archived locally.

About once every 2 weeks, I'll clear every text message on the device. I don't need it longer than that.

About once a month, I'll download all images, both taken and saved, and archive them locally.

It takes a bit of messing with, but it's something I'll do on Sunday morning while drinking my tea and sitting on the back porch, if the weather is amicable.

Good info. I used to download my e-mails but stopped like 12 years ago

If you use Thunderbird to connect to your email services, there's an addon called Import Export Tools that will create a nice HTML list of all emails currently in the box of interest, plus a folder of the emails themselves in a universal (Except Microsoft) .eml format.

I do this once a week and put them in yearly folders, this allows me to easily search for emails, since I can usually remember the around-this-time frame of the email, even if I can't remember the exact date.

The only thing I dislike about IOS, is it's such a massive PITA to offload old pictures

but yes, every few months I archive everything on it.

I'm a bit lazy about removing apps, just in case I need that old beacon tag app, despite the tag probably being dead and lost 5 years ago

I used to just back everything up to an external hdd. Now I sync everything with my nextcloud server. I mount the drive locally on my phone with rclone. The only thing that actually uses space on my phone now is apps.

Only problem I have with Nextcloud is it seems to corrupt images.

As far as images go I've been using . I set up a shared folder in nextcloud that we sync our images to and photoprism imports them from there. Photos is definitely not one of nextcloud's best features.

I'll check that system out. Thanks.

No personal info on my phone at all, I use it as a text/phone. Contacts is all you would get.
