Marbles, capture the flag, frisbees, hunting, playing music on an instrument, climbing trees, exploring woods, riding bikes to exotic places like baskin robbins, then riding back, car surfing, bridge jumping, building things, 12 year olds with lawn businesses, paper routes, boy scouts, girl scouts...and all the time spent earning merit badges, pick up football, softball, laying outside and naming/comparing images in clouds, sneaking into movie theaters, and reading. <-- kid life

I would bike a lot as a young boy.

Adventures in woods etc.

Marbles. Match box cars.

Oh and use arts and crafts to make my own toys.

No electricity involved ever.

Growing up in the 80s rocked

When I was a kid in the 90’s, I would build kites in the summertime. Wintertime I’d make planes and a ski ball rig and stuff out of paper. Fun stuff

We played water balloon wars with the immature adult males/dads.

A buddy and I would go around riding at night and look in windows of opportunity. It is amazing how careless women are when they are in their room on the second floor in a very White area.

even in my youth I recall biking to a Dairy Queen

I think the idea was for stuff that might be done when the grid is down or similar no electricity situations since the internet is everyone's favorite time burning activity. If there was no power then I doubt they'd be running a generator to keep the Dairy Queen going. That will be emergency times, livin in the 17th century times situation.

If you want to have a "what do people do when the grid goes down?" discussion, post that and I'll chime in. I've had my share of grid down experiences in the US and overseas....longest was a month. The reader's digest version is, "Own a fucking gun." and "Don't be a diabetic."

Adding:

  • Rubberband guns. (a great offshoot was 'Assault' where you each make a base and place action figures/G.I.Joe around it and shoot them off with rubberband guns from across the room/yard)
  • Sock wars.
  • Hide and go seek in the dark (indoors and/or outdoors).
  • Various 'tag'-based games; Freeze Tag, Statue, etc.

Good adds! You reminded me, we once rode around grabbing stacks of all the free advertising papers in the area, took them to one guy's house and spent 4 hours crumbling up each page and tossing it in a room until the room was buried 6 feet deep in paper..Then we played tag. We beat the crap out of ouselves running into stuff.

That is very imaginative and sounds like it would have been (or could be) a lot of fun!

Take a by cycle pump. Remove all but the main tube. Tape the thumb cut from a thick rubber glove and tape it to one end of the tube

Best ammunition was monkey apples or guavas. Or Marbles or stones.

Was a blast.
