They are an isolated, insular, genetically distinct people between Southern France and the Iberian peninsula. They have stayed the same since before we have history. Their language is unique, but shares many similarities with both Greek and Latin. They don't often intermarry with other people's. They have been occupied for most of history and yet kept their culture and genetics strong. I believe they are the original protoeuropean peoples who rooted our basis for culture and language.
