In the era of banks turning the buying of a house into glorified renting with mortgages and property taxes it may seem inticing to some to just rent a apartment or house on the cheaper end (at least until Vive La Revolution!™ begins). By cheap I mean $750 a month or less.

Finding cheap rent is not a bad plan. Just be prepared for super shitty landlords of various races, that fit the stereotypes.

It may be a better idea to buy a house and get some roomates. At least you'd have some control over your living partners and be moving in the "no mortgage" route.

It might be an even better idea to find some cheap land, with some sort of internet connection, buy it outright and camp on the land until you can afford a manufactured home in cash. Then at least you'd have land for a small homestead.

Not only that but you live near poor people, the shittier they sometimes can be. Not all but ive lived in a cheap apartment before. most poor people are poor for a reason due to lifestyle choices.

Yes, he may come home to an extension cord running into his neighbors house.

Once upon a time I lived next to a hispanic gangster who, among other things, pointed a camera into my bedroom window and was engaging in human trafficking. The police knew better than to respond to my calls. So much fun!
