I havent needed a piston return spring since i worked on a qjet...
Those were the days.
I can't remember the last time I used a bent compression gauge, the older cars needed at least 10 degrees bent compression, but these newer cars probably use a lot more.
I always used johnson rods. Negated the need for piston return springs.
Johnson rods were the best, weren't they? Good times, good times...
Do they still make muffler impeller pressure testers? Gotta keep that exhaust flowing freely.
Oddly enough, Johnson bars/rods used to exist. On older caterpillar tractors the Johnson bar would change any gear to reverse by simply moving the Johnson bar back and forth. Cats built before the Johnson bar was developed were known as slide bars.
You just can't find a right angle compression gauge these day. I feel ya.
I vividly remember the day my dad sent me into Napa for blinker fluid
Ha. He's a-okay. Lol.
I'll probably get drunk and wait for the niggers to come raid my house. I'm not trying to re-populate the earth or rebuild society.
All of my possessions are in my suburban sized city, and I don't have any house in the woods. Once the power goes out, I'm throwing a party for myself until the bitter end. We all gotta die someday.
I do keep dry food and bottled water on hand, with careful rationing I should be able to hold out at least a couple of weeks, after that I might start scavenging.
I'll wing it. I don't think very many will be even started, much less, up to speed. When the show starts, it will be comical.
Pretty much everyone in my family are either too old or too sick, or both. to keep up. So, I have been mentally preparing for them falling by the wayside for years. But hell, if the show takes much longer to start, I will be in the same situation. Getting old is is dumb.
If you're in a city or even a large town: get the fuck out asap! Just run a bit of a thought experiment... what would happen if the power went out and didn't come back on: - Do you have food? - Can you store it? - Can you grow it? - Is your location safe? - Do you know your neighbors, do you trust them? - Do most of the people around you rely on functioning modern society with effectively no buffer (you're 9 meals away from chaos)?
I'm out of town, bugged out 7 years ago, joking to the missus that we were escaping the zombie apocalypse (I wasn't joking). Shit has happened a bit different to how I presumed it would, but to much the same effect. I procrastinate and haven't got as prepared as I should, but I still have a 7 year head start on most people.
What I'm getting now are things that may soon become difficult or impossible to obtain. Things that people don't think about generally. Things like arc welding rods (I considered MIG/TIG, but shielding gas will quickly become unobtainable, arc is much more privative), tool bits for metal lathe, diamond sharpening plates to sharpen chisels/planes/etc. Basically, I'm storing up the tools and durable consumables that are necessary to make and repair other tools. If I never have need of them in a collapse scenario, then that would be a welcome relief. But if I do, I'll be so much more grateful that I have them.
If you're going to do this, it's probably best not to tell anyone (nearby) that you are doing it, or broadcast your preparedness in a way that you can be identified and located. If shit goes south, people who want what you had the foresight to store will make a beeline for you and take it from you by force if necessary.
Just bought a set of Muffler Bearings... Fuckin A! $379 Bucks! Used to be Made In USA for $12.99! Can't even find Left Handed Smoke Shifters any more...or Bacon Stretchers! This crap is out of control!
For me, SHTF, it's off to my brother's farm/ranch.
Why not live on a ranch yourself?
May happen in the not too distant future. But he did military contracting and came home with enough to buy 150 acres.
Whatever your plans are, before you hit the road, make sure that you replace the summer air in your tires with winter air. Store that summer air as you might be gone a while and need it again.
Blinker fluid is nothing compared to the price increases for muffler bearings.
