I do too much shopping on amazon but I have been doing much better lately. I find lots of stuff cheaper elsewhere. So before buy anything I do a quick search on pricing for that product. It's surprising how many times I find the whatever thing for a much better price.
Yes since Amazon dominates the search engines, one is often forced to use it as a catalog:. -- but, then you can search by part number or name/description to purchase that product elsewhere. I make an effort not to buy anything through Amazon
Exactly, I'm working on heading that way myself. Sometimes though I will find that an item is significantly more expensive on the manufacturers website than it is on Amazon. On those occasions I do make the purchase on Amazon.
Yeah it's funny how often buying direct from the manufacturer actually costs more. But often in these cases I have been able to find other outlets with the same price as Amazon, if I keep looking.
I prefer to shop retail as well [ESPECIALLY if it's clothes or food] but Amazon will have a wider variety of things [light switch covers being the latest example] and I have been turned away from electronic stores on multiple occasions with them suggesting I go online to find what I'm looking for.
