I hear this from younger moms at work. The side of the story is biased, but I don't think there is a good defense to "My husband was too busy playing a video game to notice our 3 year old had wandered outside."

Most modern "parents" are not parents at all.

They don't bother themselves with raising the kids, just let them out of the house into the street to do whatever the fuck they want.

Well with smart phones and TikTok , kids practically raise themselves these days

I have a daughter with two girls ages 4 & 9. She and the son-in-law are pretty good, even though he is pretty much an NPC. Luckily they live in a very small town with a group of other parents who are partly awake.

I know a family where it's IPad's and Iphones 24/7. Oldest Kid is a bit if a handful..7 or so.

Another family seems to be doing really well with their 3 year old kid. Never seen one so well behaved. Lots of communication with the kid. Please and thank you a, clear no and yes with reasons why not to behave that way. Not much punishment needed yet. Just a cute child.

The rest of friends I've seen parwnting are mostly toddlers so...mostly just diaper changing.

Most parents these days are afraid to discipline their children. Maybe they are afraid of getting arrested, who knows. If the kid is rational and sensible and decent, they can get away with it, but if the kid is rebellious and aggressive, they are fucked. Kids who might have been saved by being punished at the right time for their offenses are lost if they are allowed to get away with it. They become prostitutes, drug users, criminals, because they think they can manipulate everyone else without consequences. At the very least they make their parents' lives a living hell.

Our culture has lost its moral center, which was based in Christianity. Few people have a strong moral code these days, and when they become parents their moral weakness is taken advantage of by their aggressive, arrogant children. The biblical rule "Spare the rod and spoil the child" exists for a reason. Not every child need punishment. Most don't need it. But some do, and if they don't get it, they are lost for the rest of their lives.

My son is 7. Starting 2nd grade in August. He was one of two kids that could reliably read on their own in 1st grade. His principal said 85% of the 3rd graders can't read or are at a 1st grade level. Most current parents are lazy and selfish. They don't want to do the hard work and they use the tv or phone as a babysitter.

It runs the gamut as far as I’ve witnessed on a personal level. Same as it ever was I suppose, but it does seem that there are a lot more kids that are just plain ungovernable these days even amongst the best of parenting.
